Understanding Medela’s breast shield sizing:
Pumping should not hurt. To make it as comfortable and effective as possible, Medela offers five breast shield sizes. This guide helps you determine the best size for you, based on your nipple diameter.
Step 1: Using a ruler or measuring tape, measure the diameter of your nipple at base (across middle) in millimeters. Do not include areola.
Step 2: Based on your measurement, determine your Medela breast shield size. Example: If your nipple size measures 16mm in diameter, the recommended Medela breast shield size is 21mm.
Nipple diameter (Ø mm) up to 17 mm = Breast shield size 21 mm
Nipple diameter (Ø mm) up to 20 mm = Breast shield size 24 mm
Nipple diameter (Ø mm) up to 23 mm = Breast shield size 27 mm
Nipple diameter (Ø mm) up to 26 mm = Breast shield size 30 mm
Medela PersonalFit Flex™ breast shield has been developed in collaboration with researchers and nursing mothers for comfortable and convenient pumping.
The breast shield has a soft edge, 105°opening angle and oval shape (which can be rotated 360°), for more comfortable pumping and optimized milk production. The shape of your breasts is unique and can change during the breastfeeding period. With this breast shield, you can easily adjust the fit of the breast pump so that it becomes easier to find the most comfortable and efficient pumping position.
For maximum comfort and efficiency when pumping, Medela offers four different ones sizes.
