Forget bulky steam sterilisers or juggling giant pans of boiling water for sanitising! The bags can be folded up so they take no space in the storage, but although they’re small, they are surprisingly roomy. One bag can, for an example, hold one breast shield/connector/valve-membrane assembly, as well as a bottle with cap or teat.

Medela microwave cleaning bags use steam to kill germs and common bacteria quickly and easily, in a similar way that a steam sterilizer or bottle sterilizer uses steam to disinfect breast pump parts and other accessories. As with all sterilization methods, some preparation is required – rinse the items to be sterilized with cold, clean water, then clean with warm, soapy water and then rinse again. Pour some water into the bag, add the parts and seal the bag. Place the bag in the microwave and heat according to the instructions in the user manual (at least three minutes). Once this is done, carefully pour out the water, remove the parts from the bag and dry with a clean cloth: full instructions are on the product packaging.
